Went for a meal in the old bell restaurant a couple of weeks ago and i must say i had the venison which was one of the best meals i have ever eaten in a restaurant. Was recommended the pigeon and the venison by a charming and infectious waiter and it didnt dissapoint My better half had the scallops which were deliciously sweet although she said she could have done with one more to finish off the beautiful sweetcorn puree. We shared a cheeseboard and a bottle of top notch rioja at a very affordable price - again recommended to us. Overall a very relaxed and enjoyable evening, only down point being the work been done outside the pub

[Please Note: This review is for the New Bell, the restaurant's previous name whilst under different management to the pub.]
My son and I dined here in July and had we been in the area for more than one night, we would have eaten here again. We were staying at the Teviotdale House which was within a 5 minute walk of this restaurant. The New Bell is a formal series of dining rooms and bar above a traditional pub. We ate upstairs in the dining room in a room of wonderful old world atmosphere with exposed beams and wood paneling, not uncommon in this part of the world. The menu offered a diverse selection of fresh, local cuisine, tastefully prepared. A peanut and tree nut allergy always overshadows our restaurant opportunities, however, this establishment was able to accommodate our needs and the food was delicious. I had the salmon and my son had one of the steak offerings. The portions were adequate, although we could have eaten much more as everything was so flavourful. In fact, we have since recommended The New Bell to our friends in Edinburgh.

Don't be confused. This restaurant goes by three names, depending on how long you've been in Edinburgh, but on the door, you'll find the Old Bell. We came here on quiz night, which was fun, and they have a wonderful selection of guest beers. I discovered Idleweiss here, which is one of my favorite beers I had in Scotland. The sticky toffee pudding was also good and the atmosphere was perfect, old school Scotland. You could put this pub in the 1800s and it would still be at home. Great place and walking distance from the Minto B&Bs.
